Things Happen

I’m not going to say that my year has started horribly. It hasn’t. I won’t say that 2019 was horrible. It wasn’t. The last half of 2019 was a struggle. I won’t lie. In a way, the struggle is still there. However, things are finally looking up. There are still some things that aren’t great, but we have to pick up and move on eventually.

One of my biggest flaws is that when unexpected things happen, I kind of derail. I don’t exactly have a strict routine, but I do have some habits and goals that I like to keep at every day. When that gets derailed, I feel lost. It usually takes a few days to get back to normal.

Naturally, I’m behind. Not the way I really wanted to start the new year, but things happen. I will catch up. Especially if I let some things go. That includes the blogs for the week. I tried to keep up. I just couldn’t. I’m not even going to make excuses. I know I could easily do them. My heart wouldn’t be in them. One thing I will always be persistent on is the fact that I will never do anything half-hearted on this blog.

I’ll return to normal Monday. I may even start writing a personal blog every week that isn’t related to books, writing, or crime. I haven’t fully decided on that yet. I wouldn’t want to bore anybody. I’m hoping that I’ll have a few book reviews out before next week starts. We’ll see how things go. What I can promise is that by Monday, I’ll be in a better place. Positive thoughts!

May this be the last blog like this I have to put out. I wish that I could explain everything that has went on. It would make me sound like less of a flake. There are things that just really shouldn’t be talked about publicly in my opinion. Even if I did believe in oversharing, I don’t want anybody to feel bad for me or think that’s my intention. We all have our struggles and issues. It’s how we get past them that matters.

An Impromptu Readathon (I’m Sick)

All week long I’ve been under the weather. I feel way better than I did earlier this week, but I’m still weak. I keep a reading schedule. Due to being sick and not feeling like reading, I fell behind on that. So, today I’ve been reading most of the day. It’s been a very relaxing and nice day. It occurs to me that I may have turned it into a readathon. I liked that thought so much that I may extend it to tomorrow.

For those of you who don’t know, I absolutely love readathons. I look forward to them. I used to be a part of a group that did three a month. I miss it. I just failed the group. But that’s another story. I’d honestly prefer not to talk about it.

I’d like to go ahead and look into readathons that go on next year. I’m not sure about participating in any more this year. I might if I can, but we’ll see. If anybody knows of readathons going on next year, please let me know about them. Thank you in advance!

Well, that was how my Saturday was! Is everybody ready for Christmas (that celebrates it). I’m not. I don’t have the money to buy anybody gifts. I probably won’t be able to buy the food for a special dinner. Who knows? It was a rough summer and fall, but things are finally looking up!

I might do a personal readathon for Christmas Eve and Day! Anybody is welcome to join me if they’d like to! I’ll make blogs about my progress if that’s something people would like to see. I’ll find a way to make a group if a few people show interest!

Thank you for reading.

Where I’ve Been And What I’ve Been Reading

Training ended on Tuesday for my job. It kind of ended very suddenly. A lot of important material was rushed over. We all could have used a lot more practice. Wednesday, my training class was thrown into calls. We were all terrified. We actually lost a few people because they were so frustrated and didn’t feel they were ready. I got it. I have to be honest, I considered walking to. Three days of taking calls and things are easier. I was completely drained after calls. Two of the three days I’ve barely read at all. I did listen to audio a little one day and fully another. That counts , right?

To add to the chaos that was my week, my editor settings on my desktop computer went wonky. I’m not sure what happened. It completely stressed me out. I had my boyfriend and editor of my blog post the last review for me. Luckily, I do have my laptop. It will be my blogging computer from here on. Yeah, it’s been a pretty stressful and not so great week.

I decided to start the True Crimes and Conspiracy Theories blog series next week. I didn’t get a lot of chance to research after being so drained from calls and nerves all week. I plan to start next Friday. It will be so fun. I’m disappointed that it didn’t work out for this week, but I’m only human. I make mistakes and get overwhelmed just like anybody else.

I decided to kind of mesh all the blogs I didn’t have the energy to do this week into one. I didn’t really get a chance to read other blogs this week and didn’t post many blogs or read much. So I won’t be posting a reading wrap-up. I plan to read everybody’s though! They are so encouraging to read!

What I’m Reading:

What I’ve Finished Recently

I think I have some promotional blogs I’ll be posting that I was supposed to post this week. I’m not sure. I have to check the planner I refused to look at as I fell further behind every day. I’d fully appreciate if anybody would read my blogs on there anyways! It would make my day! it’s Willow Writes And Read Promotions.

Confessions And Announcement

I’ve had a schedule up since the beginning of October. I LOVE the schedule part. I LOVE that I have a guaranteed blog to post every single day. The problem is that I didn’t love all of the things on the schedule. There are two I really look forward to. WWW Wednesday and Reading Wrap-Up. I also look forward to Featured book. Things just don’t really excite me anymore.

Either way, I’m happy to post. I’m blessed to have people who enjoy what I’m writing. It makes me look forward to it. I love reading other people’s blogs too. It’s very great to have a community to people who share the passions I do.

I’ve really been confused on a lot of things. There was this post about things to give up for the month of November. Each month had a different task. Mine (August) was no social media. I kept posting blog stuff to social media, but I didn’t actually get on.

It was very therapeutic for me. It helped me sort a lot of things out. I love writing, but I need to get out of my own head. There is a writer’s group starting up at my library. If I can, I’m going to do what it takes to join it. I think it will help. I’m also considering finding a way to do some writing classes.

I’m still putting consideration in narrating. I’d like to spend quite a few months practicing before I put serious consideration in it. I’ve always loved reading. I used to read out loud to my siblings. There was just something comforting and thrilling about it. This would be different, but it’s something I really think would make me happy.

As I stated, I wasn’t completely happy with my schedule. I’ve decided to vamp it up to see if that helps.

Monday: Writing Diary. I will either post a sample of my writing or I’ll post an update on how my writing is going. Most of the time, it will most likely be writing progress. I haven’t really had inspiration to write lately.

Tuesday: Arts and Photography. I really do love taking pictures. I don’t get the chance to do it as much as I was when I was getting out of the house more. I have been taking drawing lessons! I’ll share some photos or drawings or talk about how things are going for me in this area.

Wednesday: WWW Wednesday. It’s a popular blog that goes around that gives an update on reading plans. I really love this. Very much.

Thursday: Featured Book. I’ll pick a book that recently finished or I’m currently reading that I’ve really been enjoying.

Friday: True Crime and Conspiracies. I want to share about a subject I’m passionate about. I’ll probably talk more about True Crime than Conspiracies, but I’ll talk about those that interest me. I’m willing to take requests and do the research for whatever crime or conspiracy asked about. Please note I will put the facts in about whatever I blog about, but I will heavily be putting my opinion in on it and my feelings.

Saturday: Free Day. I’ll post anything that strikes me. It will be book related or something about my life.

Sunday: Reading Wrap Up. I’ll be posting about my weekly progress and the links for the blogs posted for the week. This will be for this blog and my promotions blog.

Thank you all for putting up with me through all of this. I don’t mean to be indecisive. Sometimes I let my fears and doubts get the best of me. I’ll get better eventually. The point is I’m trying. Right?

Happy (Belated) Thanksgiving!

I hope everybody had a fantastic Thanksgiving! I did. I don’t have many family left, but I cherish the ones that are! You can mess up a lot and they love you anyways. It’s beautiful!

I have fallen behind this week due to planning for Thanksgiving and training. I just haven’t had much time. Instead of making up the blogs, I’m going to cancel blogs for the rest of the week. That way I can get caught up on the other things I fell behind on. This will also give me more time to figure out what to change my Thursday blog too. Still open for suggestions!

While the scheduled blogs are cancelled, I will still post reviews when I finish books. I will also post discussion questions. I’d love to hear all about your Thanksgiving and what you’re currently reading!

Featured Movies and TV Shows · Special Blogs

Upcoming Changes

I have loved the schedule. There have been changes made over time to work best for me. It’s been going really well for me. Thursdays have been Featured TV Show/Movie. The problem with that is that there are some weeks I really don’t watch much television or movies at all.

This week, I caught up on two weeks of His Dark Materials. I’ve already posted about the television show. I can tell you this, I am still enjoying it very much. They’ve taken some liberties to the show, but in ways that enhanced the story rather than hinder. I don’t mind it at all.

So I’ll be looking for something else to replace this particular weekly blog. I had a few ideas, but I haven’t made a final decision yet. I also considered opening the comments to this post to suggestions as well. Either way, I’ll make sure to have the decision made next Thursday. I’ll have it updated in the blog schedule when I make it official.

One of the ideas I’ve had that’s stuck with me is to do a weekly segment on Mysteries and Theories. I plan to leave it open so that my topics on the series can be broad. Any kind of mysteries and theories. I’d even be open to taking suggestions. I am not sure how this topic series would be welcomed. I’d love to hear thoughts on this.

Please feel free to leave your thoughts and suggestions in the comments. I’ll take a few days to take everything into consideration. At the very latest, I’ll have my decision made by Tuesday. I’m hoping that I have it made before then. I’d love one that sticks. That’s why I’m taking my time on it.

The Real Neat Blog Award

I was nominated for this by one of the most organized duo I know. I love their blog. nen & jen

Taken from Emer’s post:

The Origins of the Real Neat Blog Award

Before I answer the questions I did a little googling to try and find the origins of this award and the earliest reference I can find to it goes all the way back to 2014 and to a blog called Dear Kitty, Some Blog.

The award came about as a way to highlight bloggers that need more attention because of their awesome content on their blogs and the first logo ever created for the award is this one that I found on the same Dear Kitty, Some Blog page:

The Rules:

  • Display the Award Logo.
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and post a link to their blog.
  • Answer the questions of the one who nominated you.
  • Nominate some bloggers.
  • Ask them seven questions.

Nen & Jen’s Questions:

What name have you always wanted to have, other than your own?
I’ve always connected strongly to the names Meredith and Natasha.

What is your favourite type of character?
I would have to say a strong sassy type character. I love the character Aphrodite in House Of Night. She can be a pain in the ass, but she’s honest and she’s loyal.

What holiday do you look forward to the most, every year?
Halloween. It’s my favorite holiday of the year. With all the real horrors we face every day, it’s nice to have something to pretend to be scared over instead.

What type of blog post do you enjoy writing the most?
I love writing book reviews the most. It helps me reflect on how I really feel about the book. It’s also nice to have to go back and read about the book.

If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Oh this is a tough question! I guess I’d have to say Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Byrnes

If you could interview any author, who would you choose?
I’d have to say Janet Evanovich. I have so many questions about her writing and her life. I especially have many questions about her Plum series!

The cutest animal in the world is….
Dolphins!

I Nominate:

The Geekish Brunette
Mom’s Book Collection
Kitty Marie’s Reading Corner
Shalini’s Books & Reviews
Life’s Fine Whine
Alice In Bookland
Traveling Trailer Trash

My Questions:
What book world would you willingly live in for the rest of your life?
What is a book that stuck with you since you read it?
What is a series that you’ve loved and could read more than once and not get sick of?
What author do you want to meet the most?
What are some characters you wish weren’t fictional?
What’s your favorite go to book snack?
Where is your favorite place to read?

Depression Sets In

This week and last have been really rough for me. I’ve had a lot of stress in my personal life. I haven’t really felt motivated or inspired at all. All I’ve wanted to do is lay down and give up. Luckily, I have people who care about me in my life. That helps. Even when they don’t know something is wrong. Just thinking about them helps.

I will get back in gear starting Monday. I have been doing nothing but reading. Which has been amazing, but I know I need to get back into productivity. Depression and trying to adjust to a new schedule have been intense to say the least.

I posted a random thing I found on Facebook. My birthday is in August and I’ve been putting some serious thought into doing this. I mean I’ll make an exception for my blog posts, but other than that, I’ll be off social media.

Thank you all in advance for being so very understanding. I know that it would be easier to schedule posts, but I don’t really do well with scheduling posts. I always forget to go in and share. I wish there was a way you can just automatically post it to your social media when it posts. But honestly, in this case, there was no material to schedule. I do have some poems I can post for the rest of the week if anybody wants me to. I’ll also post my reviews like I always do.

Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon: Closing Survey

Closing Survey!

How would you assess your reading overall?

I think I did fantastic! I wish I’d read the entire 24 hours, but life and sleep happened. I missed the first and last part of event.

Did you have a stategy, and if so, did you stick to it?

My strategy was basically to just tackle the books I was behind on and read as much as I could. I’d say I stuck to it pretty well.

What was your favorite snack?

Chips and French Onion Dip ❤

Wanna volunteer for our next event?

I’d love to. This is one of my favorite events of all time!
