Every Friday, I’ll choose a book I either recently finished or am currently reading to talk about. It will be a book that as made a major impression on me and/or that I feel will hang with me a very long time.
This week, I choose Ripper. I just finished listening to this audiobook yesterday. I have the review up in the blog. Just look up my Book Reviews category. I chose this book for many reasons. To start with, the cover is just breathtaking. I would love to get this cover framed to hang on my wall. I’m a sucker for covers. I know you aren’t supposed to judge a book by it’s cover, but that doesn’t mean you can’t love them. Right?
This story has quite a mix of horror and erotic lure. It’s not a genre combination I’d of ever thought existed. I definitely didn’t think I’d like it. I did. I’m not sure if I’d pick up another like it, but it’s possible.
The book made me want to go and do very thorough research on the cases of Jack the Ripper. It also made me terrified I’d have some very bad nightmares last night. I didn’t. Thank goodness.
It was a great book nonetheless. I do recommend it very much. Especially for those who love horror and true crime. I do want to point out that there are sexual scenes for those who are uncomfortable with reading that.
I’ve been meaning to read this book for a long time. It’s been on my massive TBR pile for a long time. Mother and I have been buddy reading books for a couple years now. We started with Harry Potter books. Then we moved to The Storm Of Swords series. After that, we read the Stephanie Plum series. While waiting on the next release for Plum, we decided to read Big Little Lies. Giving me the most excellent excuse to bump it up my pile.
I’m really enjoying it so far. I mean there are some pretty intense parts. It’s hard not to get emotionally invested. But it’s good. I understand it’s been adapted to a television series. I’ll be interested in watching it when I finish the book. I watched an episode or two awhile back but I didn’t really understand much of it.
Being that I haven’t finished this book yet, and won’t for another week or so, this is not a review. It’s just one of the books that I’m currently working on that I’m interested in enough to feature for the week. It’s raw and open and real. I’m loving every second of it.
If anybody has read this book, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it in the comments. Have you watched the show? What’s it like? I’m looking forward to watching it. Hopefully, I won’t be watching it alone. We shall see! 🙂
I was surprisingly impressed with this book. I saw the cover and didn’t think I’d be impressed with it at all. In fact, I predicted it would be an absolute cringe fest. It wasn’t. I was very surprised about that. I do speak more about that in my review, which I’ve linked above.
I chose this as a featured book because it really stood out to me. And that’s why I chose to start this series. I want to showcase the books that I not only loved, but have stuck with me. Even if it only sticks with me for a little while.
I never knew until this book that I could love hockey romance. That came as a pleasant surprise to me. I find that as I continue my reading journey, I’m finding more and more genres I really don’t mind. I’m not bored with genres I’ve always loved. Just adding to them. I’ve just become a more well rounded reader.
I really do encourage anybody who hasn’t read this to at least check it out. Read the blurb. Maybe even try a chapter or two to see if it’s something you could get behind. It has many elements that are very powerful. Some of which are swept under the rug. I really enjoyed the pro-feminism in this book. It was very inspiring.
I read this book for the first time in high school. I loved it. It became, and remains, one of my favorite trilogies of all time. I was super excited when the movie came out. I went and watched it in theaters. It’s rare that I’m overly critical about anything. I was very livid about the way they did the movie. It was the most horrible adaptation I’ve ever seen. I never bought it, and I never watched it again. That is my opinion, however. Many people who watched it seemed to have loved it. People who read the book and people who didn’t.
I got word that they were going to be adapting the trilogy again. This time as a television show on HBO. I have to be honest, I’m a little nervous. I’m also excited. I’m waiting for it to be recordable for my DVR. My boyfriend wants to watch it with me, but he’s never read the books. That’s the main reason I’m reading them again. To read them with him, but also to refresh my memory of the book.
Quite frankly, I planned to reread this book for a long time. Especially during banned book weeks. Something always seems to come up though. It’s maddening. Things work out the way they are supposed to, I suppose.
This book may not be for everybody, but I adore it. I really didn’t think I would when my best friend in high school introduced me to it. It was a pleasant surprise when I did. I’m glad that I’m finally rereading it though. I missed a lot of things the first time around. I am really excited about the TV show! If all goes well, I will be talking about it on my blog!!!
